"If you don't know where you are going, you will end up someplace else"- Yogi Berra The feeling of drifting isn't usually a good one.
Have you experienced this before? Where you feel like there is no real goal and like you are just going through the motions day in and day out? Maybe it's a lack of clarity of what you really want, maybe it's a mix of being unhappy where you are but you aren't sure how to change it, maybe it's overwhelm. There are lots of roadblocks and limiting beliefs that can stop us from moving forward in our lives with clarity of what we really want.
I know because I've been there multiple times. I am 31 years old and I've been through 3 career changes from criminology, to corporate leadership to being a business owner of 4 businesses. The amount of times that I have felt like I am paddling blind is countless.
What has helped me work through my limiting beliefs and roadblocks is to anchor myself to one thing. My burning desire to help people. Each path I've taken although extremely different has that common thread of simply helping people. Whether it was as a counsellor, working with executives, or as a wellness coach in any of my businesses... it's all the same. I am here to serve and support you. The times I feel like I am drifting or paddling blind I remind myself of my anchor, I tune into my intention, my purpose, my burning desire to help others. If what I am doing aligns with that, then trust that everything will work out as it is intended to. When I am being challenged or what I do is being challenged, I ask myself, " Am I authentically connected to my anchor?" If the answer is yes... then let go of whatever judgement has been presented and keep on keepin' on!
As a surfer, it is absolutely critical to know where you are positioned in the wave and the lineup to avoid getting caught in a rip or getting pummelled by a wave. You should always know where you are going and can FEEL when you aren't in the right spot. You are very externally aware of your surroundings but you are also deeply connected to your intuition.
Now, it's your turn.
Your anchor is likely going to be different than mine which is great!
Do you know what your anchor is? If yes, I'd LOVE to hear about it in the comments below.
If not, have you explored what that could be in your life? Are you ready to get off of the drifting program and get anchored? OKAY! There are a couple of things you can ask yourself right now that might help. First, pick one area in your life you want to focus on (job, relationship, health, etc). Second, reflect on the questions below:
Why are you doing what you are currently doing? If you chose relationship, why are you with the person you are with?
Are the reasons you answered question 1 with big enough to anchor you through the toughest times?
If not, what needs to change?
This is NOT an overnight process and it's a big exercise to work through. I am simply planting a seed.
